Lady Panthers Finish Third in Conference Championship

Atlanta, Ga.---With a three-point margin, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers finished third in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) track and field championshipsat B.T. Harvey Stadium on the campus of Morehouse College Saturday.

After the preliminary rounds, CAU qualified for eight of ten running events and all field and combined events.
Freshman Ashley Ellis captured the team's only championship individually or as a team after winning the pole vault competition. Brittany Robinson added two second place finishes and one third place in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase, the1,500 meters and the 10,000 meters, respectively while Markeisha Woodson captured second place in the10,000 meters and third in the Steeplechase. Junior Nekesha Whitaker finished second in the 5,000 meters and senior Jonae Prince-Coleman placed fourth in the Heptathlon ahead of Tabia Wade who finished fifth in the same event.

Other top six finishers for the Lady Panthers were Ariel Lomax (4th-400m Hurdles), Whitaker (5th-10,000m), Ashley Cunningham (5th- Hammer Throw), Quinette Herrington (6th- Triple Jump), DeShericko McReynolds (6th- Discus), Latasia Franklin (6th- Shotput), Jonae Prince-Coleman (6th- High Jump), Jerriyauna Jarboe (6th- 400m), and the 4x100m (6th).

"It was a great all-around team effort," said Head Coach Pamela Page of her young team.

The Lady Panthers improved from their fifth place last season.
